Happy Friday! Here’s the latest Columbus restaurant news:

    • Last week BrewDog abruptly closed its Short North and Franklinton bars. The company seems to be scaling back some of its locations; its New Albany brewpub and its U.S. headquarters in Canal Winchester (including the DogTap restaurant and DogHouse Hotel) remain open.
    • This week multiple sources reported that Fox in the Snow is eyeing two new locations, one in the old Hot Chicken Takeover space in Clintonville (4203 N. High St.) and one in Upper Arlington at 1510 W. Lane Ave., the former Roll bike shop. Fox in the Snow itself hasn’t officially confirmed the expansions, but if so, they would constitute the sixth and seventh locations of the coffee shop and bakery.
    • Coffee + Cone at The Mallway is set to debut on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 1866 N. Mallway Dr. in Upper Arlington. The shop will feature a full coffee bar, soft serve ice cream, and more treats.
    • Rishi Sushi, Kitchen, & Bar announced this week that after 15 years downtown it is closing its doors. But it doesn’t seem to be going away completely, as they teased a “second act,” with more details to come.
    • Bakes By Lo announced that they’ll be moving from their stall in Hilliard’s Center Street Market to a larger shared space at 4045 Main St.
    • Black Sheep Kitchen & Spirits in the Short North announced that it will end its run as a restaurant and bar, and shift to becoming an event space instead.
    • After closing its original space, Rosebud’s in Delaware has reopened just down the street at 3 W. Winter St.
    • Related to Rosebud’s, owner Josh Dalton shared more information about his forthcoming Mediterranean spot on the Scioto Mile in Columbus (in the former Milestone 229 space). The new eatery will be named Amara. Dalton is also working on Rosalita’s, a modern Mexican restaurant in downtown Columbus.
    • The owners of Ozzie’s Kitchen & Tavern at 300 E. Fifth Ave. in Weinland Park have shared that the eatery has been retooled and is now Lola’s Americana. Lola’s serves appetizers, small plates, and drinks.
    • The new owners of Basic Biscuits, Kindness, & Coffee in Grandview have been renovating the space and updating the menu. They’re planning a full relaunch in February, with the restaurant officially becoming The Hive Coffee & Cafe.
    • The owners of Kokoborrego Cheese announced that they will be ending operations after about 15 years in business. They said they’ll continue selling through the indoor season at the Worthington Farmers Market, and will hopefully appear at the Worthington and Clintonville farmers markets in the spring. They’re also collecting donations for packaging so they can donate aged cheese to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.

    Some great culinary events!

    • There are still tickets for a fundraising chili cook-off featuring a collection of great Columbus chefs this Sunday, Jan. 18. The afternoon benefits Service Relief.
    • The organizers of CrestFest are hosting a fundraising Meat & Cheese Raffle on Sunday, Feb. 1 from 2–5 p.m. at Seventh Son Brewing. Entrants to the raffle can potentially win meats and other prizes donated by Weiland’s Market.
    • White Castle announced that reservations are live for their annual dine-in Valentine’s Day dinners.
