There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest news:
- The owner of District West soft opens Black Sheep Kitchen & Spirits this weekend in the Short North. It takes the place of Bristol Republic, which is in the process of moving to Bridge Park, and is a community-oriented, LGBTQ-friendly restaurant and bar serving brunch, dinner, and late night eats that will feature live music, DJs, and more.
- The owner of Yemeni Restaurant has soft opened a new coffee shop called Marib Coffee. It’s located at 610 W. Shrock Rd. in Westerville and features pastries, traditional Yemeni coffees, espresso drinks, refreshers, smoothies, tea, and more.
- Parlor Doughnuts will open its second central Ohio location this Saturday, Aug. 9 at 5915 Evans Farm in the Evans Farm development in Lewis Center. Parlor, which started in Indiana, opened its first local shop in Powell this past February.
- The sushi spot Oshii 2 has quietly closed at 2333 N. High St. (the former Alana’s and short-lived Adelaide’s) and has become a sports bar called Joey’s Place.
- The Yabo’s Tacos at 5254 Cemetery Rd. in Hilliard has closed.
- The owner of ‘plas food and drink in the Short North has opened a new concept called Plate at the East Market.

- Tomorrow night – Saturday, Aug. 9 – I’m reading a short story as part of the Thurber House’s final summer literary picnic at Green Lawn Cemetery!
- Next week Tuesday, Aug. 12 is Taste the Future at Columbus State. The annual culinary fundraiser supports programs and scholarships for students, and features tastings from dozens of local restaurants.
- The Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival this weekend, Aug. 7-9!
- I’ll be speaking at the Marion Public Library on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m., talking about Ohio Food & Travel. It’s free!
