I’m always a fan of more adorable outposts for coffee, breakfast, and baked goods, and last spring Uptown Westerville added a prime example: Begin Cafe!
Begin Cafe inhabits a small storefront on East Main Street, just off the main drag. The space has been lovingly refreshed in light creams, yellows, and greens, with a tin roof, tile backsplash and flooring, little cafe tables throughout.
It’s just the type of place you want to hole up on a chilly fall day, especially when they’re rolling out seasonal lattes.
Begin’s coffee menu covers drip coffee, pour overs, espresso, plus tea, chai, and matcha. They use a special blend from Florin Coffee for their espresso.
They capture a bit of fall with The Canadian, a rich and warming latte with maple, butter (yes), and cinnamon.
Or their take on the pumpkin spice latte. (Side note: I love the glassware they use.)
They also offer cold brew, including a fun coconut cold brew made with funky Royal Flamingo Coffee roasts.
Begin Cafe also serves a small food menu of sandwiches, bowls, toasts, and baked goods.
The egg sandwich features baked eggs, sausage, microgreens, a pistachio pesto, and a maple sauce on a brioche bun. It’s a cute-looking little sandwich.
I love the combo of ingredients, balancing sweet and savory, especially that pistachio pesto.
The Italian sandwich layers calbrese, salami, mozzarella, arugula, pepperoncini, balsamic, and honey on focaccia, all served with a side of root vegetable chips.
Like the egg sandwich, it’s smartly constructed.
We also tried a quick bite of their pumpkin loaf with a chai glaze.
Begin Cafe checks all the boxes for any coffee or breakfast outing: an adorable setting, great coffee, expertly done sandwiches and baked goods.
Begin Cafe is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
