Columbus has a new option for Creole fare in the heart of the Short North: House of Creole. Coming to us by way of Cleveland, House of Creole takes over the former Fireproof restaurant space, which closed without much ado early this year.

The space has been given a lavish update, with a long dining room along one side and a giant bar with seating near the front.

House of Creole features a full bar, with a mix of classic cocktails and specialties. We tried the Becky’s mango sangria and a smoked Old Fashioned.

Our server helped us pick out a few dishes to try. We started with their bang bang shrimp, fried and coated in a Buffalo sweet chili sauce.

It’s hard to resist fried green tomatoes as well; they’re served with a Creole aioli.

For our entrees, we tried the jambalaya, a very nice concoction of Gulf shrimp, chicken, smoked andouille, onions, and peppers served over rice.

We also tried the red snapper, fried up crispy and served with the head on or off – your choice.

For sides we had the seafood mac and cheese with fried shrimp and crab.

    And the honey butter cornbread.

House of Creole Columbus is currently open for dinners starting at 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
