There’s a hidden gem right in the middle of one of Lexington, Kentucky’s most popular attractions: the Track Kitchen at Keeneland! The unassuming one-story building sits at the heart of the racetrack grounds, and opens early every day serving an inexpensive breakfast.

The Track Kitchen offers cafeteria-style dining; guests grab a tray and silverware, then line up at the counter. There are menus posted on the wall behind the servers, and feature a collection of sandwiches; house favorites like a breakfast burrito, pancakes, French toast, and biscuits and gravy; and the breakfast special.

The special is scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy, and home fries for $6.50, or $9.50 if you sub in country ham. And everything is available a la carte as well!

Here’s the breakfast special with country ham, which might be a little salty for newbies.

This was my breakfast special with sausage and grits subbed in for the potatoes. And a side of warm spiced apples. I love how the scrambled eggs are cooked up flat on the grill and then piled into layers.

The Track Kitchen does justice by their biscuits and gravy. Nice soft biscuits and a well-seasoned gravy.

I liked the spiced apples, too. Lots of cinnamon, and very comforting during the colder months.

The country ham was good, but again – very salty. At least to someone like me who didn’t grow up eating it!

The dining room is decorated with photos of winning horses from decades as past, as well as jockeys, owners, and other notables in the business.

The Keeneland Track Kitchen is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday from 6-11 a.m. To find it, look for the front entrance of Keeneland and follow the signs!
