Columbus is enjoying a bounty of hot pot and Korean BBQ spots, and one of the newer additions is ER-GE BBQ & Hot Pot Buffet. ER-GE replaces the short-lived PJ Hot Pot on Sawmill Road, a little south of Route 161 in a plaza next to the excellent NeeHee’s.

The ER-GE space is nicely lit and decorated, with comfortable booths filling the space. Near the front door there’s a bar, while all the food stations are organized near the back.

At most of the hot pot/Korean BBQ places we’ve visited, you order from a menu and servers deliver the dishes to your table. There are pros and cons to this. The pros are that you get to hang out and cook up your meal at the table; the cons are that sometimes you order too much, or if you’re not familiar enough with the dishes, you might end up ordering something you won’t eat.

We appreciated that ER-GE did everything buffet style. You’re getting up and down a little more often, but you’re only choosing what you really want to cook up.

The sections are also organized helpfully by hot pot versus barbecue items.

If you’re new to hot pot, sometimes you don’t know what meats, seafoods, veggies, etc. are ideal for each cooking style.

And ER-GE has a very rich selection, including a wealth of seafood like this blue crab!

They also feature a cooler full of items on skewers. You can bring these back to your table, and then the server will pick them up so they kitchen can cook them for you.

And don’t forget the station of sauces and other finishing ingredients!

ER-RE also stands out with a buffet of prepared dishes, too.

So if you want a scoop of General Tso’s or fried shrimp, you’re in luck.

For the hot pot itself, you can choose from about a half dozen soup bases that range in different spice levels.

And it’s fun grilling up meats and veggies on the communal grill in the center of the table.

Overall, ER-GE has stood out as one of our favorites of the hot pot/Korean entries, both for the wonderful service and comfortable space, but also the flexibility of picking your own dishes from the buffets.

The buffet is $10.99 for kids and $22.99 for adults at weekday lunch, and $17.99 for kids and $34.99 for adults on weekday dinners and all weekend and holidays.

    ER-GE is open from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and noon to 10:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
