Although Dublin’s Bridge Park is mostly filled with locally owned restaurants, it’s easy to write the neighborhood off as a bunch of large-scale, entertainment-focused eateries. But the designation isn’t completely fair. After all, Bridge Park features worthy stops like a North Market branch, a Mikey’s, a Fukuryu Ramen, and this one-room gem: Frank and Carl’s.

Frank and Carl’s occupies a small, unassuming storefront on Longshore Street in Bridge Park. You’ll most easily find it during warmer weather when their big, folding windows open out onto the street.

The restaurant and its menu are rife with classic movie quotes. You’ll see them emblazoned on the main wall along with old photos and food-themed illustrations.

Frank and Carl’s menu covers a variety of sandwiches, from hot and cold subs to bagel sandwiches and wraps, plus salads and sides. (This includes, yes, a few breakfast sandwiches!)
The chips and cheese make for an excellent start, with bagel chips and house-made pimento cheese.

My favorite entry of theirs (so far!) is the 2 Flannels & a Vest. It marries excellent pastrami with smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, spicy mustard, chive cream cheese, and slices of house-made pickles.

It’s a great combination of salty pastrami, zesty mustard and pickles, with just enough crisp from the lettuce and tomatoes.

Bad photo of a beautiful cross section!

We’ve also been big fans of the Tizzlesticks: roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and chimichurri.

And the Havana Daydreamin is their take on the classic Cuban sandwich, with smoked pulled pork, ham, Swiss, lettuce, those house pickles, and honey mustard.

If you’re a fan of Cubans, this one is a must-try.
Frank and Carl’s is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
