While buffets fell out of fashion over the pandemic, we’ve seen their slow return over recent years, and I have to admit – there’s something especially joyful about an all-you-can-eat experience. We don’t go to them often, but they’re always a lot of fun.

And we have a new one in town that’s pretty delightful: Tokyo Grill Sushi & Hibachi Buffet!

Tokyo Grill is located on Sancus Boulevard, just south of Polaris Parkway. And the name says it all: it’s an AYCE buffet with sushi and hibachi. After you’re seated, you’re turned loose on the buffet, which features multiple sections with different small plates.

First up is the sushi, which includes more than a dozen different types of rolls, including a couple sweet ones built around sliced bananas.

Included in that section are a few options for nigiri, plus sides of wasabi and ginger.

And a nearby station features sashimi. Throughout the buffet lines are different sauces you can ladle into bowls for your meal.

Another station is loaded with small hot dishes. This includes everything from fried shrimp and oysters to bites of tempura, General Tso’s chicken, and the like.

You can also gather a variety of accompaniments like kimchi and other bites.

Another station features baskets of fried goodies, from spring rolls and crab rangoon to onion rings and chicken tenders.

The busy kitchen team is constantly replenishing and organizing the stations, so we never found ourselves missing out on anything or waiting.

Every time you go up, you grab a new tray and load with small bites.

I think it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone.

On top of all the sushi and small plates, there’s an all-you-can-eat hibachi component, too. Your server will leave a small sheet of paper for each person at your table. It’s labeled with your table number, as well as checkboxes for you to select your base of rice or noodles. Your table will also have a stack of small metal bowls; just take these and one of the sheets up to the hibachi bar, load your bowl with meats and veggies, then leave it in the designated spot on the counter. Once it’s done, they’ll deliver it to your table.

Working my way down the hibachi bar reminded me of many visits to Mongolian BBQ over the past 20+ years.

And of course there’s a case dedicated to desserts!

You’ll find little jellos and custards, cakes and pastries.

The buffet runs $17.99 per person at lunch and $25.99 per person at dinner. (Dinner prices apply all day Sunday.)

    Tokyo Grill Sushi is open Sunday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
